Throughout the Bible, we see people from all walks of life calling out to God in prayer for every reason from repentance and forgiveness to justice, from deliverance to wisdom, from provision to thanksgiving. James 5:16 encourages people to “…confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 also instructs us to “pray without ceasing.”
At Westside Baptist Church, we desire to obey these wise instructions and we firmly believe in the power of prayer, both privately and publicly. Every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., everyone is invited to an open prayer group that meets in the church sanctuary to pray because, as Matthew 18:20 reminds us, “…where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” During this time, we pray for the needs of the church and community, for the nation, for those who are suffering from lack in various areas of life, for prayer requests, and for those who do not personally know the love and grace of Christ our Savior.
In the perilous and uncertain times in which we live, it is of utmost importance that we as a church faithfully kneel on the frontlines with our most consistently effective weapon – prayer. Through it, we gain access to a God who is just and holy and who also extends mercy and compassion. We invite you to join us this Saturday in the peaceful presence of God as we continue earnestly praising and seeking Him for ourselves, our community, and our troubled world.
